Brick Factory Vuren
In the rough and flat landscape around the Waal river, an old chimney marks the site of a former brick factory. The privately owned land in between the river and the dike is informally used by inhabitants of Vuren, the adjacent village.
HofmanDujardin designed a landscape development plan to build a series of villas and dike houses, connected by a route that links the village with the Waal river. The villas are imagined as black pearls in the landscape, and the dike houses resemble their architecture. Each building is uniquely designed but share a uniform aesthetic. Beside the old chimney, a villa built around a courtyard resembles the outline of the former factory building.
While a small part of the site is developed, most of the area will be left untouched, leaving room for the river and the beauty of the surrounding rugged environment, much of which will remain publicly accessible. Each of the villas private terraces and gardens are designed as a continuation of the natural landscape.
The villas stand out like black pearls in a luscious green and dynamic landscape
